El-Shai is an Egyptian media platform covering entertainment, culture, social issues, lifestyle, internet culture, and the conversations happening around us.
Our work can take us anywhere.
One day, we could be covering a film festival. The next, we're explaining a government announcement, interviewing an actor, discussing something serious happening in society, covering a concert, or trying to understand why everyone on TikTok suddenly started doing the exact same thing.
Our content doesn't fit into one box, and neither do the people working on it.
We're currently hiring across different experience levels, including people who are still at the beginning of their careers.
We're not expecting someone applying for their first media job to have the same skills as someone who has been doing this professionally for years.
We are, however, expecting everyone to be curious, reliable, willing to learn, and capable of thinking for themselves.
Before anything else, this is a full-time, hybrid role. You need to be willing and able to work full-time, with a mix of office and remote work. Our office is always available to you during working hours, so if working from home isn't your thing, you're welcome to work from the office whenever you want.
And because El-Shai is an Egyptian media platform speaking primarily to Egyptian audiences, you need to actually understand Egyptian culture. You don't need to know everything, but you should be aware of what's happening around you, understand the cultural context behind the things we cover, and be curious enough to learn when you don't.
You're not just managing accounts.
You're responsible for understanding what we're publishing, how it should be presented on each platform, and what is happening online around it.
You need to know what deserves to be posted, when it should go out, and how to make people care about it.
The plan can change quickly.
On any given day, you might be planning the content calendar, writing or adapting captions, publishing breaking news, coordinating with writers and designers, covering an event live, spotting a conversation we should be part of, or realizing that something scheduled for today suddenly makes absolutely no sense to post anymore.
Platforms are not interchangeable.
Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X are not the same platform with different logos.
The audience, format, tone, timing, and reason for posting can change from one platform to another.
Community management is part of the job too. You need to understand when to reply, when to engage, when something needs to be escalated, and when the smartest response is no response at all.
Views aren't the whole story.
Numbers matter, but not just because a post got a lot of views. You should be curious about why something worked, why something didn't, what people responded to, and what we can learn from it.
The most important part is that you're not simply managing accounts. You're helping manage how El-Shai exists online.
